Cortland Wins Inaugural SUNYAC Women's Ice Hockey Championship

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. - Cortland defeated Plattsburgh, 2-1, in overtime to win the first-ever SUNYAC women's ice hockey championship title, Saturday at Plattsburgh's Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. With the win the Red Dragons earned an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament.

Cortland's goaltender, Molly Goergen was named the SUNYAC Tournament MVP after making 26 saves in the final game and 22 saves in the semifinal. 

Elite 20

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The women's ice hockey honoree is Plattsburgh's Aizah Thompson. She is a sophomore economics major with a 3.96 overall GPA.
