MIDDLEBURY, V.T. - The SUNY Geneseo women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Canton in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Saturday afternoon, 22-4. The win marked the Knights fourth victory in the NCAA tournament in program history.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo struggled early on, as Canton took an early 3-2 lead despite a pair of goals from Emily Salanger and Maira Brennan in the first five minutes.
  • The Knights offense got hot down the stretch of the first quarter, as they scored six unanswered goals to take an 8-3 advantage.
  • Geneseo continued to put the pressure on the Canton defense in the second quarter, as they put up another eight goals to take a 16-4 lead into halftime.
  • The Knights defense kept the strong play going in the second half, completely shutting out Canton and helping secure the 22-4 victory.

  • Freshman attacker Alaina Reina led the offensive effort with seven points on four goals and three assists. Molly Brown chipped in six points two goals and four assists, while both Megan Cook and Reegan Vorgang added five points.
  • Emily DeJohn and Maggie Rosaschi split time in goal, with DeJohn earning the win and Rosaschi picking up three saves.
  • Meg Seeley and Tricia Curran led the defensive effort, as Seeley tallied a game-high five caused turnovers while Curran notched six draw controls and five ground balls.
