New Paltz Sweeps SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - New Paltz teammates Kaitlyn Shaw and Morgan Atwater are the SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.

Shaw led New Paltz to two wins on the week. She was critical in a 9-7 win over Hartwick on Wednesday, totaling three goals and an assist, including a pivotal highlight goal in the fourth quarter as the shot clock winded down, lasering a goal from distance to create a two-goal difference to help keep Hartwick at bay. Shaw added a ground ball and two draw controls in the victory. In a 21-2 road win over Mount Saint Mary College, Shaw scored a team-leading six goals off 13 shots, all on target, whiel adding four ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover. Shaw also became the first player in program history to record six or more, six-plus goal games with her performance Saturday.

Atwaterled a New Paltz defense that allowed just nine goals total through two games, both wins, while keeping its opposition to just 17.5 shots against. She led the team in ground balls in both games, totaling four in a 9-7 road win over Hartwick, while adding a team-leading two caused turnovers with five draw controls along with five points (four goals, one assist). Atwater then set a new program record for ground balls, totaling 10 in a 21-2 rout of Mount Saint Mary College Saturday, while adding a team-leading three caused turnovers with three draw controls, four goals one one assists. Atwater finished the week totaling a team-leading 14 ground balls, five caused turnovers, eight draw controls, eight goals and two assists.
