
2024 SUNYAC Women's Lacrosse Awards Released
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its 2024 annual women's lacrosse league awards including Attack Player of the Year, Midfielder of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coaching Staff of the Year and All-Conference teams as voted on by the conference coaches.
Attack Player of the Year - Toni Cashman, Cortland
Cashman led the conference with 43 goals and was second with 50 points in league play. She is second with 68 overall goals and fifth with 81 points so far this season. Cashman added 10 caused turnovers (19 overall) and 12 ground balls (24 overall) to help the Red Dragons clinch the top-seed after regular season conference play. Cashman was named to the All-Tournament team after she scored eight goals to help her team win the 2024 SUNYAC championship title.
Midfielder of the Year - Kaitlyn Shaw, New Paltz
Shaw totaled 39 points with 28 goals and 11 assists in conference play. She is No. 1 overall with 96 points and 70 goals. She added 23 ground balls, 11 assists and 10 caused turnovers in conference play. Overall in 2024, she totaled 43 ground balls 26 assists and 14 caused turnovers. Shaw helped her team clinch the third-seed going into post season play. The Hawks advanced to the semifinals for the first time in program history.
Defensive Player of the Year - Tricia Curran, Geneseo
Curran helped lead the Knights to the SUNYAC championship game as the No. 2 seed and was named to the All-Tournament team. This season, she was No. 1 with 30 ground balls in conference competition and 60 overall. She was second in league play with 23 caused turnovers and 44 overall. She added 74 draw controls (No. 7) overall.
Goalkeeper of the Year - Margaret Morgan, Cortland
Morgan allowed just 34 goals in conference competition to lead the league in goals against average (5.44) and save percentage (50.7). She helped the Red Dragons capture the program's 24th overall SUNYAC women's lacrosse championship as the No. 1 seed. Morgan will advance to the NCAA Division III women's lacrosse tournament with her team where they will face Westfield State University (Mass.) in a first-round game on Saturday, May 11, at 1 p.m. at Tufts University in Medford, Mass. Morgan currently has 13 wins overall in goal.
Rookie of the Year - Tristan Davis, Brockport
In her first season as a Golden Eagle, Davis had 21 points in conference play with 21 goals. Her season high of five points was against New Paltz on March 29. She totaled 40 points overall with 38 goals and two assists. Davis also totaled 45 draw controls, 19 in conference competition. Brockport advanced to the SUNYAC semifinals as the fourth seed and ended its season 10-7 overall.
Coaching Staff of the Year - New Paltz
New Paltz's women's lacrosse head coach Randy Vite is assisted by Chris Biddle and Lara Keenan. The staff led the Hawks to their first-ever SUNYAC semifinal appearance as the No. 3 seed; the highest seed clinched in program history. The Hawks finished the 2024 season 14-4 overall. Six athletes were named to the SUNYAC All-Conference team including the Midfielder of the Year.
