
Adams, Lombardi, and Women’s Lacrosse Team Earn IWLCA Academic Honors

NORTHBOROUGH, Mass. – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced their women's lacrosse academic awards on Wednesday afternoon and Janey Adams, Sam Lombardi, and the Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team received recognition for their academic excellence in the classroom.
To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater.
Teams must have posted a 3.0 or higher GPA for the academic year.
The senior defender Adams finished her collegiate career with a great fourth season, as she ranked in the top three on her team in multiple statistics. She controlled 32 draw controls on the year which was second on the team and propelled her to third in program history for draw controls with 77. Her successful season on the circle was highlighted by a season-high six draws against Norwich on Mar. 13. Adams was also second on the team in caused turnovers with 13 and now ranks second all-time for caused turnovers in a career with 48. Her contributions on the defensive end were highlighted by a season-high four caused turnovers against Fredonia on Mar. 30. She scooped up 12 ground balls this season and sits at third all-time for ground balls in a career with 74. The senior defender also contributed to the offensive end this year tallying five goals on the season and scoring her first career goal against Canton on Mar. 2. She also had an assist to total six points in 2024.
The senior defender Lombardi had a solid season to end her collegiate career as she was at the helm on the defensive end. She led the team in caused turnovers with 16 and now ranks fourth all-time in program history with 41 caused turnovers. The senior defender had six games in which she caused multiple turnovers on the year highlighted by games against Union on Mar. 20 and Fredonia on Mar. 30 when she caused three turnovers. Lombardi was third on the team in ground balls with 23 to move her career total to 61 which is sixth all-time. One of her best defensive performances came against Buffalo State on Apr. 13 when she scooped up a season-high four ground balls. She also saw some action on the circle as she controlled four draws on the year. Lombardi registered an assist on the year as well.
The team excelled in the classroom and finished the academic year with a cumulative GPA of 3.27.
The Plattsburgh State women's lacrosse team finished the year 7-9 (3-4 SUNYAC) which slotted them in seventh in the SUNYAC standings.
