SUNYAC Set to Kick off 2016 Fall Season

CORTLAND, NY - After a long summer the State Unviersity of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is excited to begin its 2016 fall competition as Geneseo looks to defend its second-straight Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup while each of the 10 member institutions will compete to capture the cup.

Women's tennis is the first official SUNYAC contest this fall with Oswego hosting Cortland. Last year both Oswego and Cortland finished third in their division. The defending SUNYAC champions, Geneseo looks to grab its sixth-straight title as the top contender opening up their fall season against Brockport. The SUNYAC Women's Tennis Championship is set for October 8-10 at the Binghamton Tennis Center.

Field hockey opens up conference competition in the middle of September with New Paltz fighting to capture its fifth-consecutive SUNYAC championship. The 2016 SUNYAC field hockey champions will be determined November 5 on the campus of the top seed.

Men's and women's soccer conference play kicks off on Friday, September 23 as each team will be opening up that day. The two-time defending champions on the men's side, Oneonta, will begin their season as they host Cortland. For the women, Oneonta will look to defend their 2016 title as they compete against Cortland. Both soccer championship games will be November 5 at the highest seed.

Women's volleyball also begins on September 23 as the 2016 defending champions Brockport hosts the first SUNYAC pool play weekend along with Potsdam. The other two SUNYAC volleyball weekends are October 7-8 and October 21-22. The championship is set for November 5 at the #1 seed.

The SUNYAC cross country runners will compete at the SUNYAC championship meet on October 29 at Letchworth State Park in Geneseo. Geneseo looks to capture its sixth-straight women's team title (16th overall) while the Geneseo men will run for its third-straight team championship crown (14th overall). Geneseo's Sara Rosenzweig (21.48.6) and Isaac Garcia-Cassani (25:00.7) were the individual winners of the meet last year.
