SUNYAC picks Athletes of the Week for baseball, softball and lacrosse

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its athletes of the week going into the last week of regular season play for baseball, softball and lacrosse.

Baseball Athlete of the Week - Eli Holton, Oswego
(Jr, OF/C - Hancock, N.Y., 24)
Holton continued his hot hitting during the week while the Lakers went 5-1, including 2-1 against No. 4/5 Cortland. The Hancock, N.Y. native notched six hits, scored four runs and drove in five RBI. During Oswego's 8-5 win over Cortland in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Holton reached base in each plate appearance. He earned a pair of walks and slapped two hits, including a home run and a double. Over the week's five games, Holton maintained a .429 average, .529 on-base percentage and a 1.000 slugging percentage. 

Baseball Pitcher of the Week - Tim Cronin, Oswego
(Sr, P - Walden, N.Y., 2)
Cronin earned his eighth win of the season in a 5-3 win over No. 4/5 Cortland. The Walden, N.Y. native moved to 4-0 in his career against Cortland with an earned-run average below 1.80. During the seven-inning complete game performance, Cronin did not allow an earned run and struck out a pair of batters. On the season, Cronin leads the SUNYAC in earned-run average among starting pitchers with a 1.72 ERA. 

Softball Athlete of the Week - Allie Block, Buffalo State
(So, P - N. Tonawanda, NY, 18)
Block hit .588 (10 of 17) with five doubles, two home runs and 11 RBIs as Buffalo State went 3-3 for the week in SUNYAC play. Block hit a grand slam in Saturday's 7-3 win over Geneseo. She also pitched 37 1/3 innings, earning three wins with 45 strikeouts and a 2.63 ERA.

Pitcher of the Week - Alexandrea Flint, Cortland
(Sr, P - Dalton, N.Y., 11)
Flint went 2-0 with a 1.40 ERA to help Cortland clinch the top seed in the SUNYAC standings. In 10 innings she allowed nine hits and three walks, struck out four, and gave up two runs. She threw a two-hit shutout over five innings in a 16-0 win vs. New Paltz Sunday and allowed two runs on seven hits with no walks and two strikeouts in a 4-3 win Saturday over Oneonta.

Men's Lacrosse Athlete of the Week - Zach Cook, Brockport
(Jr, MF - , 33)
In Brockport's lone game of the week, Zack Cook was a force in the face off circle. The junior went an impressive 19-of-21 in the circle, including a streak of 15 wins. Cook also managed to scoop up 17 ground balls in the 10-7 victory. 

Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week - Joe Scalise, Cortland
(Jr, G - Fairport, NY, 55)
Scalise helped lead the sixth-ranked Red Dragons (12-1, 4-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of wins last week, posting a 2-0 record with an 8.74 GAA, 19 saves and a .576 save percentage. In an 11-9 victory at Clarkson on Wednesday, Scalise turned aside 14 shots. He then made five saves in 36:05 in Cortland's 24-9 home victory versus Potsdam on Saturday. For the season, Scalise has posted a 12-1 record with an 8.68 GAA, 115 saves and a .528 save percentage.

Women's Lacrosse Defensive Athlete of the Week - Audrey Yokopovich, Fredonia
(Jr, Mid - Webster, N.Y., 25)
A junior from Webster, N.Y., Yokopovich continued her stellar defensive play with nine caused turnovers vs. St. John Fisher and four more vs. New Paltz to add to her team-leading total of 42 in 15 games. She also picked up 10 ground balls last week as she leads her team with 44 this season. She scored five goals last week and had at least one point in 14 of 15 games standing second on the team with 32 goals this season and third with 35 points.

Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Week - Kristen Ohberg, Cortland
(Sr, Attack - Brewster, NY, 21)
In leading the Red Dragons (11-3, 6-0 SUNYAC) to a pair of home wins last week, Ohberg became just the fifth player in program history to eclipse 200 career goals. Ohberg recorded 12 points on four goals and eight assists and added four ground balls and three caused turnovers. In a 15-8 victory versus Oneonta on Tuesday, Ohberg tallied five points on one goal and four assists. She then totaled seven points on three goals and four assists in a 16-6 win versus Oswego on Saturday, notching her 200th career goal midway through the second half. Ohberg, who has moved into second place in career scoring at Cortland with 358 points on 202 goals and 156 assists, leads Cortland with 60 points on 29 goals and 31 assists this season.
