SUNYAC releases basketball and ice hockey weekly honors

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) selects its Basketball and Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week going into the final week of regular season conference play.

Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week - Hamed Shamseldin, Brockport
(Jr, G - Lawrence, N.Y.)
The Golden Eagles picked up a pair of wins in SUNYAC play, aided in large part by Hamed Shamseldin. The junior averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 rebounds four assists and 1.5 steals over just 30 minutes of play. The Golden Eagles opened their weekend at New Paltz, where the Lawrence native posted 13 points, five rebounds, four assist and two steals in just 25 minutes. In a key win over Oneonta, Shamseldin was stepped up to the challenge, turning in 18 of his 20 points in the second half, including a bucket that would put the Golden Eagles up for good with 16 seconds to play. The 6-0 guard added six boards, four assists, and one steal in the win. 

Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week - McKenna Brooks, Geneseo
(So., F - Oswego, N.Y.)
Brooks averaged a double-double 15.5 points and 10.5 rebounds in a pair of SUNYAC road victories last week. She started with 15 points and 10 rebounds while adding four steals and a pair of blocked shots in a 55-38 victory at Oneonta on Friday that clinched Geneseo the top seed for the SUNYAC Tournament before compiling 16 points and 11 boards in Saturday's 56-39 victory at New Paltz that snapped the Hawks' nine-game winning-streak.

Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week - Jimmy Morgan, Fredonia
(So, F - Highlands Ranch, Col.)
Morgan had two points in each of the Blue Devils' two SUNYAC wins. He had a goal and an assist in a 5-1 win over No. 6 ranked Geneseo and two assists in a 3-2 win over Brockport. His plus-minus rating in the two games was plus-5. He now has eight multiple-point games and is second on the team with 26 points. The win at Brockport clinched a playoff berth for the Blue Devils.

Ice Hockey Goalie of the Week - Eric Bogart, Fredonia
(So, G - London, Ont.)
Eric Bogart, a sophomore goaltender from London, Ont., stopped 75 of 78 shots (96.2 save percentage) as Fredonia won a pair of SUNYAC games and nailed down its first conference tournament berth in three years. Bogart's weekend started with a 31-save 5-1 home win over No. 6 ranked Geneseo and ended with 44 saves in a 3-2 win at Brockport. He improved to 9-6-1 this season with a 2.71 goals-against average and a save percentage of 92.8.

Ice Hockey Rookie of the Week - Nick DeVito, Morrisville
(Fr, F - Averill Park, N.Y.)
DeVito posted his first collegiate hat trick in an 8-4 win over Cortland on Saturday, collecting four points in the contest as he picked up an assist. One of DeVito's tallies came on a power play seven minutes into the first period, his first of the night. DeVito added a second score late in the second period, which proved to be the eventual game winner, before wrapping up scoring with an unassisted goal in the third.
