Mitchell Named SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Buffalo State junior forward Justin Mitchell (Buffalo/Timon) was named the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, and the Bengals moved up three spots to 21st in this week’s D3hoops.com national poll.

The Bengals handed Wesleyan (Ct.) just its second loss of the season on Saturday, winning 80-77, and then defeated the previously unbeaten host Cardinals, 82-81, on Sunday to win the Catholic University Classic.

Mitchell was named the MVP of the tournament after averaging 18.0 points in the two victories, including matching a career-high with 27 points against Catholic in the title game.

Buffalo State’s 10-1 start is its best start to a season since opening the 1991-92 campaign with an 11-1 mark.  The Bengals are 23-2 in their last 25 games dating back to last season.

Buffalo State will play an exhibition game tomorrow at Division I University at Buffalo at 7 p.m., before returning to SUNYAC play at home next Monday against Fredonia at 8 p.m.
