Burridge and Simmons Tabbed by Sporting News Magazine

Oswego senior Chad Burridge (Hannibal, N.Y.) and Buffalo State junior guard Jake Simmons (Rochester, NY) have been named preseason All-America by Sporting News. Burridge was a first-team selection while Simmons garnered second team.
In addition, the Oswego State men's basketball team has already been noticed before the start of the 2011-12 season with a No. 8 preseason national ranking from the Sporting News magazine.

The Lakers, who went 24-5 overall and 17-1 in the SUNYAC, return four of their five starters.  Burridge, the 2010-11 East Region Player of the Year, averaged 18.5 points and 6.6 rebounds per game a year ago, and will provide challenges for opposing defenses.

The Lakers start the season on November 15 when they face St. Lawrence on the road before hosting the annual Max Ziel Men's Basketball Classic on November 18-19.  During the Classic, Oswego State will face 2011 NCAA qualifiers Ithaca College and Wells College.
The Bengals made a run to the “Sweet 16” in the NCAA Tournament last season. Simmons led the Bengals and the SUNYAC in scoring, averaging 19.5 points-per-game and became just the 19th player in school history to surpass 1,000 career points, tallying 1,007 in just two seasons. Simmons also set a school record hitting 92 3-pointers, and his 159 in two seasons also broke the school's career mark. Simmons was a contributor on defense as well, leading the league in steals with 77 and ranked 25th in the nation in that category.

The Bengals will open their 2011-12 season on Nov. 15 at home against D'Youville at 8 p.m.
