Jesse Winter Chosen as SUNYAC and ECAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

Cortland junior guard Jesse Winter (Rockville Centre/South Side) has been chosen as both the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Upstate New York Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending February 19.

Winter averaged 22.3 points, 5.0 assists and 4.0 rebounds per game in three Cortland victories as the Red Dragons clinched second place in the SUNYAC standings. He shot 51 percent from the field (18-of-35), including 44 percent from three-point range (7-of-16), and hit 83 percent of his free throws (24-of-29).

Winter scored a career-high 36 points and dished out seven assists in Cortland's 108-105 overtime victory versus Buffalo State in Cortland's regular-season finale Saturday. During that game, he became the 20th player in team history to reach 1,000 career points and the ninth to do so in three or less seasons. He scored 21 points in the second half and six of Cortland's 15 points in overtime.

Earlier in the week, Winter totaled 19 points, six rebounds and four assists in a win over Brockport and had 12 points and four assists in a win versus Fredonia.

Winter leads Cortland with 14.9 points and 3.9 assists per game and is shooting 79 percent from the foul line.

Cortland completed the regular season with a 19-6 overall record and 14-4 league mark. The Red Dragons will host Plattsburgh on Tuesday, Feb. 21, at 7 p.m. in the SUNYAC tournament quarterfinals.
