Buffalo State's Simmons Earns SUNYAC and ECAC Player of the Week Award

FREDONIA, NY—The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) named Buffalo State junior guard Jake Simmons (Rochester, NY/School of the Arts) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after averaging 25.0 points per game to lead nationally-ranked Buffalo State to a 3-0 week on the road, including a pair of SUNYAC wins. Simmons was also selected the ECAC Upstate Division III Player of the Week.

An individualized studies major, he opened the week with 27 points vs. non-conference Houghton. He had another 27-point game as the Bengals opened their SUNYAC campaign with an 80-76 win at Oneonta and finished with 21 points in an 89-83 overtime win at New Paltz on Saturday.

Simmons shot 51 percent from the field (25 of 59), 44 percent from three-point range (11 of 25), and 87.5 percent from the line (14 of 16) in the three games. Simmons was also force defensively in both SUNYAC games; he had four steals and two blocked shots vs. Oneonta, and five steals vs. New Paltz.  This is his third career conference player of the week award.

Buffalo State (5-0) will host Cortland and Oswego in a pair of conference games at the Sports Arena this weekend, with tip off against the Red Dragons on Friday at 8 p.m.
