Matt Devine Selected to D3hoops.com All-Star Team; Will Compete in Europe from May 21-31

MINNEAPOLIS – Junior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) of the State University of New York at New Paltz men’s basketball team was one of 10 players from NCAA Division III selected to the 2011-12 D3hoops.com All-Star Team, as announced Friday by D3hoops.com. Devine is the only representative from the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

The group, which was chosen by Sports Tours International from D3hoops.com All-Region nominees and other 2011-12 NCAA Division III men’s basketball standouts, will be coached by Dee Vick of Hampden-Sydney College. The team will be in Europe from May 21-31 and is scheduled to visit and play against opponents in Paris, Amsterdam and Den Bosch, Netherlands.

“The games will be a great opportunity for the all-stars to play against guys at the international level,” STI president Lee Frederick said. “They will get the chance to talk to Euroleague scouts and coaches and will be able to make contacts overseas. This will be invaluable to the guys that want to try and continue playing after graduation.”

During the 2011-12 season, Devine led the SUNYAC in points per game (21.5) and ranked second in the league in rebounding (8.4), as the 6-foot, 4-inch forward started in all 26 of the team’s games during the campaign. In addition, Devine shot 85.5 percent from the free-throw line, which gave him the 36th-highest free-throw percentage in NCAA Division III. At the season’s end, he was named to the All-SUNYAC Second Team, marking his first-ever All-Conference honor.
