Matt Devine Picked as SUNYAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

FREDONIA, N.Y. – Junior forward Matt Devine (Manalapan, N.J./Freehold Township) of the State University of New York at New Paltz men’s basketball team was chosen as the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Men’s Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 27, 2011, as announced Monday by the conference office.

Devine scored a career-high 31 points off 11-of-16 shooting (68.8 percent) from the floor and added a career-high 15 rebounds in a 95-88 loss to Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday night at the Kaplan Center in Newburgh, N.Y. Devine has notched a double-double in each of New Paltz's three games this year, and he is averaging 23.7 points per game and 12.7 rebounds per game this season so far. He is leading the league in both scoring and rebounding, and he is tied for 15th in the conference in assists per game with 2.7.

Devine is the first Hawk to be named the SUNYAC Men’s Basketball Player of the Week since Feb. 8, 2010, when teammate Harris Wichard (Merrick, N.Y./Bellmore JFK) was accorded the distinction. This marks the first time that Devine has won the league’s weekly honor.

New Paltz next faces cross-river rival Vassar College on Wednesday, Nov. 30, at 7 p.m. in its 2011-12 home opener at the Hawk Center.
