
Burke, Shelest and Legault Earn SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC picks Oswego's Ryan Burke as its Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week and Cortland teammates Shane Shelest and Justin Legault as the Goaltender of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Freshman Burke had an outstanding week against two conference opponents. First, at Canton he assisted on 2 of the 10 goals scored by the Lakers. Then against Cortland, on neutral ice, he buried two goals and assisted on 4 others for a 6 point game against the #14 ranked Red Dragons. He is currently tied for first in the conference with his teammate Travis Baker who both have 14 assists on the season.
Shelest had a strong performance for the Red Dragons in his one game in goal last week, sporting a 1.00 goals against average and a .909 save percentage. The freshman stopped 10-of-11 shots in goal in a 4-1 victory over Southern New Hampshire on Wednesday afternoon, including making three saves with the game scoreless in the first period.
Legault netted the first hat trick of his collegiate career and also added an assist in an 8-2 victory for the Red Dragons over St. Anselm on Tuesday evening. The freshman scored the go-ahead and game-winning goals for Cortland, then completed his hat trick late in the second period. He also provided the primary assist on Cortland's final goal of the contest.
