Weaver-Vitale, Mobley, and Ramm Take Home Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week Honors
CORTLAND, N.Y. - Plattsburgh's Kevin Weaver-Vitale and Tyler Ramm are this week's SUNYAC Men's Ice Hockey Athlete and Rookie of the week respectively, while Cortland's Ronan Mobley brings home Goaltender of the Week honors.
Weaver-Vitale was a key piece in lifting the Cardinals to two wins over the weekend and clinching the team a spot in the SUNYAC playoffs. In Friday's win over Buffalo State, the graduate student assisted on the game's opening goal, tallying three shots and a +1 plus-minus during the game. His biggest play of the weekend came in overtime, however, as the defenseman scored a breakaway goal in overtime to give the Cardinal's the 5-4 win. On Saturday, he scored once again for Plattsburgh State, notching a power-play goal for the Cardinal's first goal in their 4-3 win over Fredonia.
Mobley had a stellar performance in goal for the nationally 14th-ranked Red Dragons, making 30 saves on 31 shots for a .968 save percentage, and recording a 1.00 GAA in a 2-1 victory over Canton on Saturday evening as Cortland clinched a first round bye and a home semifinal game in the upcoming SUNYAC Tournament. Mobley came up with a huge save in the first period on a breakaway to preserve a one-goal advantage, and made 10 saves in the third period to secure the win.
Ramm played a big part in the Cardinal's two wins over the weekend, helping the team to clinch a SUNYAC playoff berth. In Friday's win, the first-year forward tallied a power-play goal, as the Cards defeated Buffalo State 5-4 in overtime. On Saturday, Ramm picked up two goals, tying the game at the end of the second period, and then notching the game-winner midway through the third period. He also finished with a +2 plus-minus and tallied two shots in the 4-3 win over Fredonia. He has now scored in three straight games and in his last five games, he has six goals.
