Cortland Sports Information Department
Cortland graduate student forward Nate Berke (Williamsville/Buffalo Jr. Sabres) has been chosen as a Division III men's ice hockey All-American by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA), in conjunction with CCM Hockey, for the 2024-25 season.
Berke was named to the All-America East first team, the first player in program history to be a first team All-American. The All-America squad consists of five units – three East teams and two West teams. Berke is the third Red Dragon to earn AHCA All-America honors, joining goaltender Luca Durante and forward Nick Zappia. Durante was a second team selection in 2021-22 and Zappia was a second team honoree in 2014-15.
Last week, Berke also was announced as one of 13 finalists for the AHCA's Sid Watson Award, which is given to the Division III National Player of the Year. Shane Soderwall of Curry College was the winner of the award.
The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Herb Hammond Co-Player of the Year and a first team All-SUNYAC honoree, Berke skated in all 26 games for the Red Dragons, recording 39 points on 16 goals and 23 assists. His 1.50 points per game rank him sixth in the country and first in the SUNYAC, and his 0.62 goals per game were second in the SUNYAC and tied for 12th in the nation. He registered at least one point in 20-of-26 games, and scored a goal in 13-of-26 games. Berke netted three game-winning goals, in victories over Alvernia, Potsdam, and Curry, and also scored four power-play goals and two short-handed goals.
Cortland finished the season with a 19-7 overall record, tying the program record for most victories in a season. The Red Dragons posted a 12-2 record in conference play to win the SUNYAC regular-season title. The 12 conference wins also set a school record for conference victories in a season, as did the .857 winning percentage in conference play.
