Weekly baseball awards announced

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its latest Baseball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week awards. This week's winners are pitcher Brian Nolan of Oswego and third baseman Jake Williams of New Paltz.

Brian Nolan dominated on the mound to lead Oswego to a 13-2 victory over conference foe Oneonta on Sunday. Nolan pitched six shutout innings, allowing just two hits. The junior also averaged over a strikeout an inning, dishing out seven strikeouts to the Red Dragon batters. Nolan's efforts on the mound sealed the victory for Oswego, and he earned his team-best fourth win of the season.

Senior third baseman Jake Williams was on fire this weekend as he helped the Hawks take two of three from the College at Brockport. The Golden Eagles entered the weekend at 5-3 in the SUNYAC and hadn't allowed more than five runs to a conference opponent yet, but Williams and SUNY New Paltz dominated the opening double header with scores of 11-1 and 11-2. In the first game Williams went 2-for-5 with a home run, four RBIs and two runs scored for a 1.000 slugging percentage. He followed it up in the second game going 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs, and two runs scored for a 1.250 slugging percentage. In the final game Williams went 3-for-4 again with a run scored. In total, he finished the three game series with an impressive .615 batting average and 1.000 slugging percentage with six RBIs and five runs scored. He was also perfect on the hot corner for the Hawks with a 1.000 fielding percentage.

The Lakers will host out of conference foes St. John Fisher in Oswego tomorrow at 4 p.m. as they look to keep their win streak alive. New Paltz also hosts an out of conference foe tomorrow at 4 p.m. as Rowan University comes to New Paltz for a matchup against the hawks.
