Day 2 of SUNYAC baseball championship

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The second day of the State University of New York (SUNYAC) baseball playoffs were completed today in Cortland where host Cortland moved past Oswego, New Paltz won in extra innings over Brockport and New Paltz and Oswego was called off by rain in the top of the 6th inning. 

In game 1 of the day, New Paltz took down Brockport 2-1 in 11 innings. Both teams could not score for the first 10 innings of the game. It wasn't until Charlie Serino scored on a drop pop fly to give Brockport a 1-0 lead in the top of the 11th. New Paltz came right back in the bottom of the 11th when Justin Ganca singled to left scoring two runners giving New Paltz the win 2-1. That eliminated Brockport and New Paltz moved on to face the loser of Cortland vs. Oswego. 

Game two was a lot like game 1 with great pitching and extra innings. The game was scoreless tell the bottom of the 7th when Marcos Perivolaris grounded into a double play that scored a run for Cortland. Oswego answered right back with a run in the top of the 8th on a Brandon Nicholson single to left. Just like game one, we headed to extra innings. Where Colin BeVard hit a walk-off solo home run to give Cortland the 2-1 win and advance to the finals tomorrow.  Oswego had to turn right around and play New Paltz in an elimination game. 

In the third game of the day, Oswego was up 4-0 when the game was called due to rain. The Lakers jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the 1st when Brandon Nicholson scored on a New Paltz throwing error. Oswego added on to there lead in the bottom of the third when Eli Holton singled to left scoring two runs. In the bottom of the fourth Kevin Hylas scored on a wild pitch to give New Paltz a 4-0 lead.The game will start at 10 am Saturday in the top of the sixth. Winner advances to face Cortland in the finals at noon.
