Seren elevated to Interim Assistant Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation

GENESEO, N.Y. – SUNY Geneseo Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation Mike Mooney recently named Jessica Seren Interim Assistant Director of Intercollegiate Athletics and Recreation. Seren enters her 11th year in the department after spending the last 10 seasons as head coach of the Knights' field hockey program.
"Jessica has been an integral part of the Geneseo Knights' family for a long time and I'm excited to move her into an expanded role within the department," said Mooney. "While she has left an indelible mark on the field hockey program, I know she will make an even bigger impact serving all of our student-athletes and programs as a full-time administrator."
In addition to her coaching responsibilities, Seren served as the department's Senior Women's Administrator for the last four years. She will continue coordinating several initiatives, including Student-Athlete Foundational Education (SAFE) and Emerging and Veteran Leaders programming, while representing Geneseo as a member of the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Governing Body.
Seren's new duties will include sports supervision, game management, and serving as the liaison with the campus development office while also supporting multiple committees across campus and in the Division of Student and Campus Life.
The winningest coach in Geneseo field hockey history, Seren compiled a 113-77 record while leading the squad to a pair of SUNYAC Championships (2016, 2010) as well as its eighth-consecutive postseason appearance last fall. The three-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year (2016, 2010, 2009) also mentored the first two All-Americans in Knights' history (Michelle Milkovich '11, Kayla DeAngelis '14) along with 10 All-Region selections and 33 SUNYAC All-Stars.
In 2010, Seren guided the Knights to a program-best 18-2 record, including the first SUNYAC Championship and NCAA Division III Tournament appearance in program history. She later became the first Geneseo coach to achieve 100 career victories in a 1-0 decision at Utica on Oct. 20, 2016.
Seren came to Geneseo after serving a season as assistant field hockey coach at SUNY Cortland, gaining experience in all facets of an intercollegiate field hockey program including contest and practice management, recruiting, scouting, budget management and compilation of statistics. Her professional experiences also include two event management internships at Cortland as well as an athletic administration internship at the University of Rochester.
A 2006 Cortland graduate, Seren was a starter for the Red Dragons for four seasons. She earned second team All-Region from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association on three occasions, was a three-time All-SUNYAC selection and was the SUNYAC Rookie of the Year in 2002. The Red Dragons participated in the NCAA Tournament in each of her four campaigns, reaching the tournament semifinal round on two occasions.
A native of Gloversville, N.Y., Seren received a bachelor's degree in sport management from Cortland and completed a master's degree in athletic administration from SUNY Brockport.
Seren assumes her responsibilities immediately while the search for the sixth field hockey coach in the 21-year history of the program is ongoing.
