SUNYAC Recognizes Schmitz and Higgins with Softball Weekly Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has named Geneseo's Kaitlyn Schmitz as its Softball Athlete of the Week and Oswego's Fiona Higgins the Pitcher of the Week.

Schmitz finished the four-game weekend by posting a .533 batting average, two home runs, and seven RBIs. Schmitz went 8-15 at the plate, including a 3-4 performance against New England College where she had two doubles and a home run with four RBIs and three runs scored. Her slugging percentage for the week was 1.133.

This week, Higgins appeared in two games, starting in one. In their 3-1 victory over Emmanuel College, Higgins pitching five innings and earned 11 strikeouts with an ERA of 1.40. In The Lakers second game of the season, Higgins came in to relieve Maria Lutz in the final inning. Higgins earned the win over New England College, striking out the side to earn the 8-7 victory over the Pioneers. In her first week, Higgins has posted a total of six innings pitched, 14 strikeouts, an average of 16.33 strikeouts per seven innings and an overall ERA of 1.17.
