Geneseo Sports Information Department

MARSHALL, T.X. - The SUNY Geneseo softball team traveled to Marshall, TX, the host site of the NCAA Championships in early June, and took on No. 9 East Texas Baptist University (ETBU). The Knights came up short in their first matchup of the double elimination regional pod, falling by a score of 6-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Geneseo got off to a slow start, with the Tigers scoring three runs in the first and second inning. Junior pitcher Sydney Bolton stepped up in relief for the Knights, and slowed the ETBU offense after the second inning.
  • In the bottom of the third inning, Bolton and the Geneseo defense forced a big double play following a leadoff single to center. Rebecca Schwartz picked up the hard hit grounder at third and threw it over to Leah VanDerwarker covering second, who made the quick turn to get the force out at first.
  • In the top of the fifth, Samantha Martz picked up a single down the left field line. Unfortunately, the Knights were unable to capitalize and get a rally going and ultimately fell, 6-0.

QUICK FACTS

  • Bolton was stellar on the mound, throwing four innings and only allowing one hit while striking out two batters.
  • The loss drops Geneseo to 25-17-1 on the season, while ETBU improved to 39-5.
