
Rometo and Barry Named SUNYAC Softball Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selected New Paltz's Jackie Rometo as the Softball Athlete of the Week and Cortland's McKenna Barry a the Pitcher of the Week.
Rometo continued a prolific season with a standout performance to lead her team to a doubleheader sweep over St. Joseph's (L.I.) and Oneonta this past week. Rometo batted .692 (9-13) with a 1.000 slugging percentage, totaling nine runs, nine hits, seven RBI, four doubles, a walk, five stolen bases and a hit by pitch with no strikeouts while batting cleanup for SUNY New Paltz. Rometo also registered her 100th career hit on a bases clearing two-RBI double in game two against Oneonta, which gave the Hawks a 5-1 lead in the second that propelled her team to a win.
Barry went 2-0 with a 1.91 ERA and only six hits allowed in 11 innings in two road victories. She tossed a two-hit shutout with two strikeouts and two walks in a 6-0 win at defending league champion Geneseo on Saturday and she struck out six batters in four innings in a 14-4 win at Brockport the previous day. In addition, Barry hit .333 (4-for-12) in four games with four RBI, two walks and five runs scored.
