2023 SUNYAC Softball Annual Awards Released

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has released its 2023 softball awards including the Julie Lenhart Player of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Sandra Hollander Coaching Staff of the Year and the All-Conference teams. These awards are nominated and voted on by the conference coaches.

Julie Lenhart Player of the Year - Jackie Rometo, New Paltz
Rometo, a sophomore from Montgomery, NY, led the league with 45 runs, 64 hits, 38 RBI overall and was second in sotlen bases (20). She finished the season with a .416 batting average and was third in the conference with 14 doubles and four triples. The Hawks were the top seed and host of the SUNYAC championship tournament where the team went 2-2. 

Pitcher of the Year - Lindsay Roman, New Paltz
Roman went 18-2 on the mound for the Hawks in 2023 pitching 145.2 innings in 25 appearances. She led the league with a 1.44 ERA and was second in strikeouts (110) and shutouts (4). The team was No. 1 after regular season play and earned the right to host the SUNYAC championship for the first time in program history.

Rookie of the Year - Brooke Fraas, Geneseo
Fraas led the conference with a .442 batting average and .487 on base percentage overall. She was second in the league with six triples and also had six doubles. Fraas totaled 46 hits, 32 runs and 25 RBI in 115 plate appearances. The Knights were the third seed going into the conference post season where they went undefeated (4-0) to win the SUNYAC title for the third time in a row and fifth time overall. Geneseo will travel to Marshall, TX to face East Texas Baptist University Friday in the NCAA Division III tournament.

Sandra Hollander Coaching Staff of the Year - New Paltz
Head Coach Krysti Maronski is in her fifth season as the head coach of the Hawks and is assisted by Rick Spriggs, and Taylor LaFrance. New Paltz made history in 2023 as the team finished 16-2 in regular season conference play to earn the top seed and the right to host the SUNYAC softball championship tournment for the first time ever. New Paltz had seven All-Conference team selections including the Julie Lenhart Player of the Year and the Pitcher of the Year.
