Buffalo State Sweeps SUNYAC Softball Weekly Awards

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Buffalo State teammates Sydney Bielicki and Madison Lucas have been named the SUNYAC Softball Athlete and Pitcher of the Week respectively.

Bielicki led Buffalo State to a 7-3 record last week over 10 games at THE Spring Games in Clermont, FL, posting team-highs in hits, RBI, and extra-base hits. The sophomore went 15-for-32 with a double and two triples, driving in nine runs, and scoring seven runs for the Bengals. She finished the week on a five-game hitting streak, and played a crucial role in two Buffalo State victories on the final day of action. Against Westminster, Bielicki came off the Bench to tie the game with a pinch-hit triple, then later drove in the go-ahead run on a single to centerfield. She followed it up with a 4-for-5 performance in the second game of the day, scoring three runs and driving in three more as the Bengals defeated Bates 13-3.

Lucas starred on the rubber for Buffalo State last weekend, recording a 4-1 record with a 2.26 ERA while also registering a save and 17 strikeouts over 31.0 innings across seven games. The freshman pitcher began the week by pitching 4.0 innings and allowing just one run in a 15-2 win over St. Lawrence. Her most dominant performance came in a 5-2 win over Keuka, striking out five batters over 2.0 innings while allowing just one baserunner to earn the save. Lucas also allowed just one unearned run for a complete-game victory in a 2-1 win over Union, recorded another victory over Old Westbury by allowing just one earned run in a 10-4 win, and pitched a complete game against Bates for her fourth win of the week.
