
Parente's First Half Goal Leads Oneonta Past Oswego in SUNYAC Women's Soccer First Round

OSWEGO, N.Y. - Sophomore Emma Parente (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) netted the game-winning goal in the 37th minute to give the Oneonta women's soccer team a 1-0 win over Oswego in the SUNYAC First Round. The Red Dragons now advance and face Cortland in the semifinals on Wed. Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
The Lakers' offense got moving early, with Jackie Marquardt taking the opening shot at 4:03 that junior goalkeeper Bryanna Meehan (Roxbury, NY/Roxbury Central) knocked out of bounds. Two minutes later, Sophomore Keira Dashnow (Ballston Spa, NY/Ballston Spa) responded with a shot on the Oswego goal, but goalie Perri Anderson grabbed the save.
The Lakers fired a pair of shots on goal, but Meehan again made the saves. After Meehan stopped a shot from Oswego's Erika Yancey, the Red Dragons went on the counterattack. Freshman Sara Kealey (Seaford, NY/General Douglas MacArthur) crossed the ball to Parente, who chipped the shot in at 37:51.
In the second half, senior Kayla Schwizer (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) nearly scored off a corner in the opening minute, but Anderson made the save. Oswego had some limited attempts, with shots from Katie Delgrosso and Kaylee Elliot, both saved by Meehan.
Oswego outshot Oneonta 10-6, while the Red Dragons held a 6-5 corner kick advantage.
Meehan finished with five saves in the shutout win, while junior Amelia Cataldo (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills Ballston Lake) added one. Anderson made three saves.
Oneonta next travels to Cortland for the SUNYAC Semifinals on Wed. Nov. 6 at 1 p.m.
