
New Paltz Women’s Soccer Heads to Rochester for NCAA Tournament, Faces Amherst in First Round

Rochester, NY — The NCAA Division III Women's Soccer Selection Show was held Monday afternoon with the Hawks women's soccer program's road to a respective first national championship officially cemented.
SUNY New Paltz is facing Amherst in the first round hosted by University of Rochester Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Edwin Fauver Stadium. On the other side of the bracket, the hosting Yellowjackets will take on Emmanuel College at 1 p.m. The winners will move onto the second round Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Hawks (15-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 SUNYAC) secured what was the best season in program history, recording the most wins (15) in its 39-year history and capped with a SUNYAC Championship title after defeating reigning champions SUNY Cortland Saturday on South Turf Field, 2-0.
Amherst heads into the national tournament at 11-1-6 overall and went through an always grueling NESCAC schedule and tournament, defeating Middlebury (1-0), Tufts (2-1) and then hosting Colby in a 0-0 penalty shootout to claim a conference title and an automatic bid into the NCAA Division III Tournament. It will be a first-time matchup between the Hawks and Mammoths.
Rochester (11-3-3 overall, 4-2-1 UAA) finished third in its conference behind Washington University and Carnegie Melon with both schools also earning a spot in the tournament, alongside fellow UAA counterpart University of Chicago. Meanwhile, Emmanuel are 18-2-1 and finished 12-2-1 in the GNAC earning an automatic bid after defeating Johnson & Wales University in the GNAC Finals, 2-1 in Providence, Rhode Island.
