CORTLAND, N.Y. - Over this past weekend, the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) was well represented at the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Among the many SUNYAC athletes that competed many were awarded with All-America honors. The championships were held at Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center in Boston, MA.
U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-America honors are given to those who finish among the top eight in an event at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Women's Indoor Track & Field:
Buffalo State finished 29th overall with a total of eight points. Their placement came from the Bengal's star freshman Nisa Raqib who earned a second place finish in the triple jump with her best jump coming in at 11.91 meters.
Brockport women's track & field finished tied at 51st overall with a total of four points. The Golden Eagles had two All-Americans come out of the championships this past weekend in the long jump and weight throw. Sophomore Chanyce Powell finished seventh with her best jump of 5.66 meters and senior Jessica Craven secured seventh place as well in the weight throw with her final throw being her best at 17.47 meters.
Geneseo as well came in tied at 51st overall with a total of four points. Senior Elise Ramirez was able to earn an All-America honor with her seventh place finish in the women's 5000 meter with a time of 16:51.07 that earned the Knights two points. As well, the women's 4x400 meter relay team of Anna Flaitz, Kayla Barber, Erin MacDougall, and Madison Mulder also secured a seventh place finish with a time of 3:52.62 that earned the Knights their final two points.
Men's Indoor Track & Field:
Geneseo on the men's side of track & field were able to earn a 26th overall placement with a total of nine points at the end of the championships. The points coming from two top five performances by Gillian Faulkner and Sean McAneny. Faulkner placed fourth in the men's 800 meter with a time of 1:52.61 which earned Geneseo five points. The final four points came from McAneny's fifth place finish in the men's 3000 meter. McAneny finished with a final time of 8:17.12.
The Cortland Red Dragons came in 30th place with a total of eight points. These points came from the men's triple jump where Cortland had a second place and a ninth place finish. Senior Christopher White earned himself the ninth place finish with a 14.44 meter jump. Junior Micah Assibey-Bonsu earned a second place finish and All-America honors with a 15.00 meter jump.
