CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) men's soccer awards have been voted on by the conference coaches. The awards are the Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year, Fred Holloway Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, Coach of the Year, and the SUNYAC All-Conference Teams.

Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year - Migell Ormsby, Cortland

Senior forward Migell Ormsby played an integral part in Cortland's high-scoring offense, the second highest scoring team in the conference. Ormsby started 17 out of 20 games this season and finished with 10 goals, three assists, 23 points, and five game-winning goals. Cortland finished the season with a 15-2-3 overall record and a 8-1-0 SUNYAC record, which earned them the No.1 seed in the SUNYAC tournament. In the semifinals, Cortland defeated Oneonta in a shootout, 4-3, after the teams were tied at 1-1 after 110 minutes. Cortland hosted Brockport for the championship game, but was defeated, 2-0.

Fred Holloway Defensive Player of the Year - Sebastian G-S-Archer, New Paltz

Sebastian G-S-Archer and the New Paltz defense led the Hawks to the No. 2 seed in the SUNYAC regular-season with a 11-6-1 overall record and a 6-2-1 SUNYAC record. New Paltz finished the season with the best goal differential in SUNYAC conference play, scoring 20 goals and allowing seven goals. In those nine conference games G-S-Archer and the defense held their opponents scoreless three separate times. For the season G-S-Archer, a senior, started all 17 games and totaled three goals, one assist, seven points, and one game-winning goal. New Paltz faced off against Brockport in the SUNYAC semifinals, but was defeated, 2-0.

Rookie of the Year - Theo Pencic, Buffalo State

Theo Pencic, a freshman forward from Oslo, Norway, did not disappoint in his first season with the Bengals. Pencic started 13 games and finished the season with 11 goals, one assist, 23 points, four game-winning goals, and a .742 shot on goal percentage. His 11 goals and 23 points were the fifth most in the conference and the second most amongst freshman (M. Stefaniw - 12g, 24pts). Pencic's shot on goal percentage of .742 (31 shots, 23 on goal) was by far the best in the conference for any player with a minimum of 30 shots. Buffalo State earned the No. 5 seed in the conference with a 11-5-2 overall record and a 5-3-1 SUNYAC record. The Bengals were defeated, 4-0, in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament against Oneonta.

Coach of the Year - Gary LaPietra, Brockport

LaPietra completed his 23rd season as head coach of Brockport and he continues to improve the program year after year. This season LaPietra led Brockport to the No. 3 seed in the SUNYAC with a 15-4-2 overall record and a 5-2-2 SUNYAC record. The Golden Eagles finished the season with 50 goals, 26 assists, 20 goals allowed, and 10 shutouts. In the first round of SUNYAC tournament Brockport hosted the No. 6 seed Plattsburgh, they defeated the Cardinals 2-0. The semifinal game was very similar to the first round game as Brockport went to New Paltz, and after two goals by Matthew Stefaniw, the Golden Eagles won 2-0. Brockport went on to play at No. 1 Cortland for the SUNYAC championship. They didn't let the championship spotlight slow them down, winning 2-0 over the Red Dragons. Brockport now has eleven SUNYAC championships and two under LaPietra (2009). LaPietra and the Golden Eagles earned an automatic berth into the NCAA tournament, they will face St. Lawrence on November 10 at 7:30pm at the University of Rochester.
