Golden Eagles Advance to NCAA Championships Second-Round

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The No. 15/20 College at Brockport women's lacrosse team defeated SUNY Canton in the first-round of the NCAA Championships Saturday afternoon, by a score of 16-3. With the win, the Golden Eagles advance to the second-round of the tournament, and move to an overall record of 16-4, while the Roos have been eliminated from the post-season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – 
 

  • Brockport's Heather Conklin buried the first goal of the game off a feed from Sara Grapevine, and the Golden Eagles never looked back, scoring five goals in the first 10-minutes of the frame.
  • Victoria Thompson made it two nothing, followed by Sara GrapevineJade Williams, and Chloe Kurst.
  • Canton stopped the Golden Eagles attack with a goal of their own with 19:57 remaining in the half.
  • Brockport responded immediately, as Jade Williams buried her second of the day after a pass from the stick of Sara Grapevine.
  • Brockport finished the half on a seven-goal run as Thompson buried her second of the evening to bring the lead to 7-1, followed by Allison Jennings, Conklin, Williams with two more, and Julie Carballo.
  • The Golden Eagles entered the half-time break with a 12-1 lead.
  • The Roos battled back to start the second frame, picking up back-to-back scores.
  • Brockport responded with back-to-back tallies of their own, as Carballo beat the Roos goaltender on a free position opportunity, followed by a Kurst goal to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 11.
  • Brockport extended their lead by two more goals within the last five minutes as Briana Davies banged in the Golden Eagles 15th of the day, while Danielle Hemly scored the 16th.

The Golden Eagles will take on St. John Fisher in the second-round of the 2019 NCAA Div. III National Tournament, which will take place Sunday, May 12 at 1 p.m.
