CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) shares an inside look of its Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week, Alexa Amalbert (Nauet, N.Y./Nauet) with this week's Q&A.

Amalbert was selected as the Most Valuable Player of the Hat City Tournament after helping lead Oneonta to the team title. Amalbert scored a season-high 25 points in the championship game, which was a 79-61 victory against host Western Connecticut. In the game, she made 11-of-15 shots from the field including three from behind the arc. In the semifinals, Amalbert scored 13 points in a 70-60 win against William Paterson. The junior currently leads the team in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game, and is second on the team with 27 assists while averaging 3.4 rebounds per contest.

1. Which professional athlete do you have the most respect for?

I highly respect Steph Curry and his remarkable work ethic and confidence.

 

2. What's your competition day meal?

Two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches!

 

3. What age did you start competing in your sport?

I started competitively playing basketball in 7th grade when I was 12 years old.

 

4. Do you have a hidden or special talent?

Well, my family thinks I could be a competitive eater. I love food!

 

5. What is your career goal post college?

My ultimate goal is to end up in the FBI, hopefully doing something with counterterrorism and cybersecurity.

 

6. What's on your music playlist?

Mostly R&B, hip-hop, and rap. Drake and Chris Brown are probably two of my favorite artists.

 

7. Do you have any pre-competition rituals?

I've listened to the same playlist before every game for the last five years.

 

8. What's the best advice anyone has given you?

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not."

 

9. What are your hobbies outside of your sport?

Outside of basketball, I like to go shopping, hiking, and traveling. I also love taking pictures.

 

10. What's your favorite memory since competing for your institution?

My favorite memory has probably been competing in the finals last year at Geneseo. The environment and overall energy of the gym made it a really fun and exciting place to be.
