2023 SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup Winter Standings

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Following the completion of the 2023 SUNYAC winter championships, Geneseo moved into the top spot in the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 8.65 points. Cortland holds the second place spot with 8.62 points followed by Brockport with 7.33 points.

The cup was named for Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 when he retired as the SUNYAC Commissioner after serving in the position for 33 years.

Geneseo captured four winter championships this year earning the conference crown in men's and women's indoor track and field and men's and women's swimming and diving. The Knights also finished in the top six after regular season conference play in men's and women's basketball and men's ice hockey and advanced to the semifinals in women's basketball and ice hockey.

Cortland came very close to remaining in the top spot of the Commissioner's Cup rankings, but fell to second place trailing Geneseo by .03 points. The Red Dragons of Cortland claimed the 2023 SUNYAC women's basketball championship title after topping New Paltz, 57-52. The men's and women's indoor track and field teams placed second and third respectively in the SUNYAC championship and the men's and women's swimming and diving teams both took second at the conference meet. The men's basketball team was the No. 3 seed and advanced to the semifinals, while the men's ice hockey team earned the fourth seed after regular season conference play, but fell in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament.

Brockport claimed the third spot in the Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings. The men's basketball team earned the No. 2 seed after regular season play and advanced to the SUNYAC championship, but lost to Oswego. The women's indoor track and field team placed second at the conference meet while the men placed third. The women's swimming and diving team also had a third place finish at the SUNYAC championship meet. The women's basketball team earned points for the Golden Eagles as the No. 4 seed after regular season conference play.

The final SUNYAC Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings will be released in May after the spring championships.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter, and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points, and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
