2022 SUNYAC Men's Soccer Annual Awards Released

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has released its 2022 men's soccer All-Conference teams and individual awards including the Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year, Fred Holloway Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year and Coaching Staff of the Year as voted on by the conference coaches.

Huntley Parker Offensive Player of the Year - Lucas Fecci, Oneonta

For the second year in a row, Fecci has been honored with SUNYAC's top men's soccer offensive award. He leads the league with 11 goals overall with four being game-winning goals and is tied at second with 26 points. Fecci was named to the SUNYAC All-Tournament team after helping lead his team to its 12th overall SUNYAC title. The Red Dragons will host the first round of the 2022 NCAA DIII men's soccer tournament, November 12-13 and face New England College at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

Huntley Parker was a highly successful men's soccer coach at Brockport for 14 years, winning the SUNYAC Conference twice in 1961 and 1968, while sharing the title 1970. In 1970, Parker led Brockport to the NCAA Regional Conference Champions. Parker was inducted into the Brockport Hall of Fame in 1985, while the field at Brockport was named in his honor. Parker passed away in 2003.

Fred Holloway Co-Defensive Player of the Year - Ian Blugh, Cortland

Blugh is part of a defense that has held its opponents to a 1.47 goals against average and shutout five teams so far this season. He also added five points on the offensive end. Blugh helped his team to a 6-1-2 conference regular season finish to earn the top seed going into the SUNYAC postseason. Cortland was upset by Brockport in the semifinals, but being ranked No. 3 in Region III, the Red Dragons earned an at-large bid into the NCAA DIII men's soccer tournament. The team will travel to Franklin & Marshall to face Madaille in the first round, Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

Fred Holloway Co-Defensive Player of the Year - Joe Vogt, Geneseo

Vogt helped anchor the Knights defense that allowed just 17 goals in 18 games and recorded seven shutouts. He also had seven points including one game-winning goal. Geneseo finished the regular season fifth in the conference and lost to Brockport in a penalty-kick shootout after a 2-2 tie in the first round of the SUNYAC tournament. The Knights ended the 2022 season 9-5-4 overall.

T. Fred "Prof" Holloway coached men's soccer at Cortland from 1936-72, guiding his program to a 191-94-23 record. His Red Dragons suffered just two losing seasons in 35 years, while his teams appeared in three NCAA tournaments and captured six SUNYAC Championships. Prof chaired the founding committee of the National Soccer Coaches Association, designed a statistical system for the selection of All America Collegiate Soccer players, and in 1958 was selected by the members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America to receive their most coveted recognition, the Annual Honor Award. In 1987, Cortland dedicated its soccer field in his honor. Holloway passed away in 1990

Rookie of the Year -   Milton Mancias Magana, Oneonta

Mancias Magana started 17 of 18 games this season for the Red Dragons. He totaled 23 points overall (4th in the conference) with eight goals and seven assists including three game-winning goals. He will play in his first NCAA tournament on Saturday when the Red Dragons face New England College at 11 a.m.

Coaching Staff of the Year - Brockport

Head coach Gary LaPietra and his staff, assistant coaches Dan Lynd and David Lapietra led the Golden Eagles all the way to the 2022 SUNYAC championship. Brockport finished the regular season 6-2-1 in the conference to enter the SUNYAC postseason as the fourth seed. The Golden Eagles advanced to the semifinals after defeating Geneseo in a penalty-kick shootout (5-4) after a 2-2 tie through double overtime. The team went on to upset No. 1 Cortland, 3-2, as Matthew Stefaniw scored the game-winning goal with 17 seconds left in regulation. Brockport fell short, 2-1, in penalty-kicks against Oneonta in the championship game after a 0-0 tie. Four athletes were named to the SUNYAC All-Conference team and Brockport finished the 2022 season with a 9-3-7 overall record.
