Melso, Norrman and McQuade Earn Ice Hockey Weekly Honors

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selectedEric Melso from Morrisville as the first 2022-23 Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week while Buffalo State's Emil Norrman was recognized as the Goaltender of the Week and Oswego's Matt McQuade the Rookie of the Week.

Melso led Morrisville to a season opening 5-1 win over Lebanon Valley Saturday, having involvement in 3-of-5 scoring opportunities. The junior posted two goals and an assist for three points, including one on the power play and the eventual game winner, while adding three face-off wins to his totals. Melso finished with a +2 on-ice rating for the contest.

Norrman was the star of the weekend for Buffalo State in its two victories over Lawrence University, recording a 2-0-0 record with a .988 save percentage and 0.50 goals against average. The junior netminder earned his third career shutout in a 4-0 victory on Friday evening, stopping all 36 shots on goal that he faced. Norrman was nearly as dominant in a 2-1 victory on Saturday night, allowing just one goal while making 44 saves.

This week, freshman McQuade finished his debut weekend with three points for the Green and Gold against two top-10 nationally ranked teams. In their game against #5 Hobart, the Stittsville, Ontario native recorded his first NCAA Collegiate point with an assist. McQuade also recorded three shots in the contest against the Statesman. In Oswego's second contest of the regular season and the Lakers' home-opener, McQuade continued his playmaking abilities, adding two more assists onto his seasons total. In the contest against #9 Elmira, the freshman recorded five more shots, totaling eight on the weekend.
