Bostic Begins New Position as Director of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation at New Paltz

Renee Bostic joined the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as the recently appointed Director of Athletics, Wellness & Recreation at New Paltz, she began July 1.

As Director, Bostic will report to the Vice President for Student Affairs, oversee 17 NCAA Division III varsity sports teams, Wellness & Recreation programming, and the 57,000-square-foot Athletic & Wellness Center, built in 2006, Elting Gymnasium and natatorium and outdoor facilities. Bostic will also oversee compliance with NCAA, Title IX, SUNYAC, UVC and NCEA policies and procedures.

"Renee brings to her work a proven track record for excellence," said Stephanie Blaisdell, vice president for student affairs. "She has dedicated her career to the advancement and success of student-athletes and to building strong and inclusive athletic programs that center scholar-athletes, realize key institutional goals and benefit the larger collegiate community."

A seasoned athletic director and former head coach, Bostic has more than two decades of collegiate athletic experience. She has served as the Director of Athletics & Wellness at Notre Dame of Maryland University since 2018. Under her leadership, the department won three CSAC championships, the total number of student-athletes increased by 30%, and the department earned the NCAA Division III September 2019 Diversity Spotlight Initiative. Prior to this position, Bostic served for five years as Director of Athletics & Intramurals at Medgar Evers College (CUNY) in Brooklyn, New York. Recently, she was named the NCAA Division III Athletics Director of the Year by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics in 2021.

Bostic has a demonstrated record of successful leadership including strategic planning, supervisory and budgetary experience. She brings insights from her 15 years of experience coaching women's basketball, having previously held positions at West Virginia State University in Institute, West Virginia, Robert Morris College (University), Chicago, Illinois, Hostos Community College, Bronx, New York, Manhattan College, Riverdale, New York, and American International College, Springfield, Massachusetts.

"I am thrilled to begin my work at SUNY New Paltz in support of my lifelong commitment to building diverse student-athlete communities and moving forward the mission of the Department of Athletics, Wellness, & Recreation," said Bostic.

Bostic holds membership in several professional organizations including: Women Leaders in College Sports (WLCP), National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA), National Association of Division III Athletics Administrators (NADIIIAA), a pasted Board of Directors Member for the Minority Opportunities Athletic Association (MOAA) and a Queens Alumnae Chapter member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She currently serves as the Chair Elect for the CSAC Athletic Directors and CSAC Regional Advisory Committee Member for Women's Lacrosse and on the NCAA Committee on Women's Athletics (CWA). She is also an NCAA facilitator for the GameDay the DIII Way and the OneTeam programs.

Bostic succeeds Matt Giufre, who served in this role as interim-director when Stuart Robinson announced his departure after a 28-year career at the College.
