SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected Emily Lavarnway from Geneseo and Alayna Fredenburg from Brockport as the Track and Field Athletes of the Week respectively.
Lavarnway dominated the Geneseo Roundtable Invitational, earning first place finishes in three out of four events, and set Geneseo program records in the 100 hurdles and the 200. In a field that included NCAA Division I athletes, Lavarnway crossed first in the 100 hurdles, clocking in at 14.44 to win the finals, but turned in a 14.15 finish in the prelims to set the Knights' program record. In the 200, Lavarnway finished first in 25.09 to set a new program-best mark as well. Lavarnway also won the long jump (5.64m) and placed third in the javelin for the Knights.
Fredenburg had three top-five finishes for the Golden Eagles this past weekend at the Roundtable Invitational. Fredenburg took second in the javelin event with a distance of 37.60 meters. She also took third place in the shot put event, recording a throw of 11.16 meters. Finally she placed fourth in the hammer throw with a toss of 42.99 meters.
