CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) announces its Baseball Athlete of the Decade, Coach of the Decade and All-Decade Team as nominated and voted on by the institution's sports information directors.
To be eligible for the All-Decade Team, athletes must have competed in the SUNYAC at least one season during the 2009-10 academic year through 2019-20 and athletes must have been named to the All-SUNYAC team more than once or named Athlete of the Year once. Athlete and Coach of the Decade recipients were previously named SUNYAC Athlete of the Year or Coach of the Year.
SUNYAC Baseball Athlete of the Decade - Eric Hamilton, Oswego
Hamilton played for the Lakers from 2014-17. During that time he was was a two-time ABCA/Rawlings All-American (second team, third team), two-time D3Baseball All-American (second team), three-time ABCA/Rawlings All-Region selection and four-time first team All-SUNYAC selection. He added a pair of ABCA/Rawlings Gold Gloves to his resume at third base in 2015 and 2017. In his junior and senior years, he was the SUNYAC Player of the Year. In 2016 and 2017, he batted .399 and .435 with 142 hits, 18 homeruns, and 94 RBI combined in his two All-American campaigns. Hamilton's career stats included: 160 games played, a .384 batting average, 229 hits, 146 RBI, a .424 on-base percentage and 24 steals.
SUNYAC Baseball Coach of the Decade - Joe Brown, Cortland
Brown's 10-year record from 2010-19 was 386-96-3 which is the highest win total and winning percentage (.799) of any Division III coach during the decade. Cortland won at least 34 games each season the last decade, including 40 or more victories four times. Brown and his team appeared in the NCAA tournament each of the last 10 years winning a national championship in 2015 and finishing as the runner-up in 2010. The Red Dragons had five World Series appearances (2010-12-14-15-16), six SUNYAC titles (2011-12-13-14-15-16) and the program placed in the top 10 nationally in nine of the 10 years during the decade. Brown was the D3baseball.com Coach of the Decade (2010-19) and in 2015 he was the ABCA Division III National Coach of the Year and D3baseball.com National Coach of the Year. He was a six-time ABCA Division III New York Region Coach of the Year (2010-11-12-14-15-19), four-time D3baseball.com New York Region Coach of the Year (2014-15-18-19), the 2015 ECAC Division III Upstate New York Coach of the Year and a three-time SUNYAC Coach of the Year (2015-16-19). Brown was also a 2016 inductee into the New York State Baseball Hall of Fame.
