SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) picks Potsdam's Josh Huiatt and Cortland's Marc Esposito as its Men's Lacrosse Athlete and Goalie of the Week respectively.
Huiatt totaled 17 points on nine goals and eight assists in two victories for the Bears, helping them clinch a playoff spot for the first time in five seasons. On Monday, the captain led Potsdam to a 16-9 win over Clarkson University. It was the Bears' first win over Clarkson since 2016. On Friday, he registered a career-high 11 points on five goals and six assists in a 14-13 double-overtime victory win over first place Oneonta State. He played a part in 11 of Potsdam's 14 goals including the game-winner. Huiatt now has 169 points on 101 goals and 61 assists in his career. He ranks fourth in program history in scoring and fifth in goals.
In his only game last week, Esposito turned aside 13 shots and collected two ground balls as Cortland defeated Brockport, 16-4, on the road Friday afternoon. He held the Golden Eagles off the scoreboard for the first 34:20 of the game and registered a .765 save percentage as the Red Dragons won their fifth straight game and improved to 7-3 overall and 4-1 in the SUNYAC West. For the season, Esposito has posted a 7-3 record with a 7.91 GAA, 106 saves and a .602 save percentage.
