BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - New Paltz beat Oneonta, 5-1, to capture its third straight and seventh overall State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) women's tennis championship title, Thursday at the Binghamton Tennis Center. With the win, the Hawks earned an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Tournament.
Earlier in the day New Paltz topped Fredonia, 5-0, and Oneonta defeated Oswego, 5-0, in the semifinals.

The SUNYAC Elite 20, an award modeled after the NCAA ELITE 90 program, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the conference championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. This year's winner is Fredonia senior Jane Chiacchia. She is majoring in applied mathematics and exercise science and holds a 3.96 GPA.
