New Paltz, NY — The State University of New York at New Paltz announced the hiring of Thomas Hartnett as the new Hawks men's and women's cross country coach.

"We are excited to have Tom join our staff," said SUNY New Paltz Director of Athletics, Wellness and Recreation Renee Bostic. "His experience and expertise in cross country is going to move our programs forward."

Before taking over the Hawks cross country programs, Hartnett spent six years as the Hartwick Hawks head men's and women's cross country coach and five years as both indoor and outdoor track and field programs. Prior to Hartwick, the veteran coach served in the same capacity at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Services for five years.

"I am most excited for the opportunity to build upon past success in both the SUNYAC and the NCAA regional," Hartnett said. "I think there is a great deal of potential for this program when you consider the location, academic strength of the institution, and the great training opportunities for runners in the New Paltz area. I am most looking forward to see the team get into competition. Each meet builds upon the last and that makes for an exciting season."

The Hawks begin the season at the Vassar Season Starter Sept. 1. To read more on the team's upcoming 2022 schedule, click here.
