
Bull, Schell and Sutherland Honored with SUNYAC Ice Hockey Weekly Awards
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selected Shane Bull from Oswego as the Men's Ice Hockey Athlete of the Week, Cal Schell from Oswego as the as the Goaltender of the week and Riley Sutherland from Plattsburgh as the Rookie of the Week.
Bull, normally a forward, took on the role of defender in the game against Plattsburgh. The Brooklin, Ontario native added to his points total this weekend in the Lakers' annual Whiteout Weekend. Against Plattsburgh, Bull scored Oswego's third goal, bringing his season points total to three as a defender. Bull continued creating offensive threats to the opposition on Saturday against Potsdam with two goals and an assist. The junior created the most of his opportunities with only taking four shots on the weekend and scoring on three of them. Bull now is tied for the team-lead in points with fellow classmate Connor Sleeth (6).
Freshman goaltender Schell performed exceptionally in his inaugural Whiteout Weekend for the Lakers. With 78:57 minutes played on the weekend, the Burlington, Ontario native allowed just one goal with 37 saves after four periods of play. He had a save percentage of .974 on the weekend. With these numbers, this brings Schell's goals against average to 0.76 on the year with a 2-0 record.
Sutherland tallied four points on a goal and three assists while posting a +3 rating in a 1-1-0 week for the Cardinals. Sutherland dished out an assist on the Cardinals' lone goal in a 5-1 setback against No. 10 Oswego State on Friday before scoring his first collegiate goal and adding two assists in a 7-2 victory over Cortland on Saturday.
