Cortland Leads SUNYAC Commissioner's Cup Standings After Fall 2022

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After the completion of the 2022 SUNYAC fall championships, Cortland is at the top of the Dr. Patrick R. Damore Commissioner's Cup standings with an average of 8.96 points. Geneseo is second and Brockport is third.

The cup was named after Dr. Patrick R. Damore in 2012 following his retirement as the SUNYAC Commissioner. Dr. Damore served in the position for 33 years.

Cortland finished the regular-season ranked No. 1 in men's and women's soccer and women's volleyball. Three teams advanced to the SUNYAC championship and the Red Dragons won two conference crowns as volleyball captured its 21st overall title and field hockey won its 16th in program history. Cortland men's and women's cross country teams finished third in the conference championship meet.

Geneseo won its 11th straight women's cross country championship and eighth consecutive men's cross country team title in 2022. The Knights were the top seed in field hockey, second in women's soccer, fourth in volleyball and fifth in men's soccer after the regular season. Women's soccer went on to repeat as league champions winning its 10th overall trophy. Geneseo's field hockey team hosted the championship game, but fell short to Cortland, 2-1, in overtime.

Brockport women's volleyball was the No. 2 seed going into postseason and the men's soccer team was fourth. Both teams played their way to the conference finals for the Golden Eagles. The volleyball team fell short, 3-2, to Cortland while men's soccer lost in a penalty-kick shootout to Oneonta. The men's and women's cross country teams finished second in the 2022 SUNYAC meet.

The Commissioner's Cup point system is determined by the 20 different conference sports in the fall, winter and spring. A 10-point system is used in each sport. The first-place team gets 10 points, the second-place team gets 9 points and so on. A team's regular-season finish will be added to their post-season finish and divided by two for their final total for that sport. The total number of points that a school accumulates is divided by the number of conference sports it has. This school total determines the overall winner at the end of the school year.
