
Williams and Guedez Selected SUNYAC Volleyball Athletes of the Week
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces Mackenzie Williams from New Paltz and Alexa Guedez from Cortland as this week's Women's Volleyball Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.
Williams was the catalyst offensively in an impressive weekend with the Hawks winning all four matches in the New Paltz Challenge Tournament Friday and Saturday. She led the team in kills, averaging 14 per match and four kills per set, while putting up team-high's in each of their wins over Manhattanville, Suffolk, Drew and Misercordia. She hit .300 or above in three of four matches and averaged .317 throughout the weekend, while also posting nine aces, six of which came in her team's win over Misercordia where she totaled a career-high. She was all over the floor, recording 45 digs, averaging 3.21 digs per set, while adding three total blocks and led the team with 67 points on the weekend, averaging nearly five points per set.
Guedez averaged 1.8 blocks per set and also totaled 18 kills (2.3 per set) in two Cortland conference road victories. She had nine blocks, two solo, in a four-set win at Geneseo on Friday and recorded five blocks, two solo, in a five-set win at Brockport Saturday. Her solo block accounted for Cortland's match point against Brockport. Guedez ranks fourth in the SUNYAC with 0.98 blocks per set this fall.
