2023 SUNYAC Women's Basketball All-Conference and Individual Awards Announced

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC announces its 2023 women's basketball individual awards and All-Conference teams, which were nominated and voted on by the conference coaches. 

Player of the Year - Brianna Fitzgerald, New Paltz
Fitzgerald, a junior from Dix Hills, N.Y. averaged 15.6 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2.3 steals per game so far this season. Fitzgerald scored a season-high 31 points in a 64-46 win over Cortland. She leads her team in field goals made (152), free throws made (95), rebounds (197), assists (80), blocked shots (18) and total minutes played (746). Fitzgerald also leads her team and is No. 1 in the conference with a total of 420 points and 63 steals so far this season. New Paltz fell to Cortland in the SUNYAC championship game, 57-52, but earned an at-large bid into the NCAA tournament where they will face Gettysburg College in the first round, Friday at 5 p.m. at Babson College. 

Defensive Player of the Year - Olivia Dobrovosky, Oneonta
Dobrovosky, a senior guard from Skaneateles, N.Y. started all 27 games while averaging 11.4 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists and 1.9 steals for the Red Dragons this season. She had a season high of 19 points vs. Brockport and 14 rebounds vs. Potsdam. Dobrovosky leads Oneonta in total minutes played (767), points (307) and offensive rebounds (68). She also leads her team and is third in the conference with 49 steals this season. Oneonta, the No. 3 seed, fell to No. 2 Cortland in the SUNYAC semifinal game, 66-43. The team finished 19-8 overall.

Rookie of the Year - Stephanie Jean-Baptiste, Brockport
Jean-Baptiste, a 5'8" guard from Jersey City, averaged 10.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in her rookie season. She played in 23 out of 26 games this year with 13 starts. Jean-Baptiste scored a season high of 19 points and five 3-point field goals made in a 75-60 win over Oswego. She led her team in 3-points made with 46 total. Brockport was the fifth seed going into post season, but fell to No. 4 Geneseo in the first round. The Golden Eagles finished the season 12-14 overall.

Coaching Staff of the Year - New Paltz
The Hawks are led by head coach Jamie Seward and assisted by Darren Jackson. Seward is in his 16th season as the head coach of the New Paltz women's basketball program while Jackson is in his 11th season with the Hawks. The team went undefeated in regular season conference play (18-0) to earn the top seed and the right to host the SUNYAC women's basketball final four. New Paltz fell to Cortland in the championship game, but earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Division III women's basketball tournament. The Hawks will travel to Babson College to play Gettysburg in the first round of the 2023 NCAA tournament.
