Plunkett and Quinlan Earn Field Hockey Weekly Honors
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The SUNYAC has named New Paltz's Natasia Plunkett the Field Hockey Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time this season and Geneseo's Sarah Quinlan the Defensive Athlete of the Week.
Plunkett had a career day in a dominating performance over visiting Brockport Saturday. In a 7-0 win, Plunkett was involved in four of the Hawks goals, including the opening game-winner in the sixth minute of the game to ignite SUNY New Paltz's offense. She finished with three goals and an assist, setting new career-high's for herself in goals (3), points (7), shots (7) and shots on goal (6) all in an efficient 36 minutes of action. She etched her name in the program's single-game record books, as her performance against the Golden Eagles placed her tied for fifth in both goals and points scored.
Senior goalie Quinlan was defensively unstoppable for the Knights this past week. In their 11-0 win against Medaille and 2-0 win against Cortland, Quinlan was able to record a shared shutout and regular shutout on the week, respectively. Against Cortland, Quinlan had 4 massive saves to take her team to their 5th straight shutout. With Quinlan in the net, the Knights have not allowed a goal since a 6-2 victory over St. John Fisher on Sept. 14, the longest shutout streak in program history.
