GENESEO, N.Y. – The SUNY Geneseo track and field teams took a quick trip to St. John Fisher on Thursday, May 25 for the first day of the NCAA Championship meet.
The meet opened for the Knights with Bryan Jacobs competing in the long jump. Jacobs finished in 16th place, recording a distance of 6.96m.
Lance Jensen then provided a big highlight for the Knights, finishing with the top time in the 400m hurdle prelims with a time of 51.73. Jensen's time marked a new school record, facility record, and the fastest time in the country this season. In the women's 400m hurdles, Gwen Shepardson safely secured her spot in the finals on Saturday with a time of 1:00.00, good enough for third fastest.
In the women's 1500m prelims, Windsor Ardner qualified for the finals by placing 12th with a time of 4:30.89. Erin Eivers took 15th at 4:32.44 and Marcie Hogan finished 21st at 4:43.13.
Rachel Hirschkind had a dominant race in the women's 3000m steeplechase prelim, taking first place in her heat with a time of 10:30.83. Ezra Ruggles put up an impressive performance in the men's 3000m steeplechase, qualifying for finals with a time of 8:52.69. Ruggles finished eighth overall to reach Saturday's final and set a new program record with his time.
Kathleen McCarey capped off the day in 10,000m, placing 18th with a time of 35:55.98.
DAY 2 - Gwen Shepardson opened up the meet for the Knights in the 100m hurdles. Shepardson finished 10th overall in the event, recording a time of 14.03.
In the men's 400m, Kieran Sheridan set a new program record with a time of 47.31, for an 11th place finish. Sierra Doody competed in the 800m for the Knights and raced to a 13th place finish with a time of 2:11.84.
