Phipps and Waszczak Tabbed SUNYAC Field Hockey Athletes of the Week

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The SUNYAC has selected Geneseo's Maggie Phipps and Oneonta's Carly Waszczak as this week's Field Hockey Offensive and Defensive Athletes of the Week respectively.

Senior forward Phipps was the main catalyst of the Geneseo offense with eight points this week as the team earned a pair of victories, extending its current winning streak to eight games. Phipps set the table for her teammates on Wednesday, recording three assists, including setting up the game-winner, as the Knights defeated host Houghton. On Saturday, Phipps scored two goals and added an assist to lead the Knights past visiting New Paltz, 5-1. Phipps shares the team lead with seven goals and has six assists for a season total of 20 points in 11 games played.

Waszczak led Oneonta's defensive back line, allowing only six shots on goal, and helped the Red Dragons to a 2-0 week. On Tuesday, Waszczak posted a hat trick while she and the defense did not allow a shot attempt in their 4-0 victory against Morrisville. On Sunday, she and the Red Dragons defense held Nazareth to only six shot attempts on goal in their 4-2 win.
