SUNYAC announces Softball Athletes of the Week

CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has selected its Softball Pitcher and Athlete of the Week. Geneseo's Ashlyn Kersch has been selected as Pitcher of the Week, while Buffalo State's Danielle Szymkowiak has been selected as this week's Athlete of the Week.

Kersch tossed three complete games, going 3-0 to lead the Knights to a 5-1 mark against conference opponents this week. She twirled a five-hit shutout against Fredonia, earning a 7-0 victory for Geneseo. Against Oswego, Kersch allowed three unearned runs, giving up four hits to help the Knights to a 5-3 win. At Cortland on Sunday, Kersch limited the Red dragons to three runs, striking out six batters in a 4-3 win. The sophomore pitcher is now 8-1 on the year with a 1.03 ERA.

Szymkowiak hit .636  with a home run, two double, six RBIs and three runs scored as the Bengals swept a SUNYAC weekend taking two each from Plattsburgh and Potsdam. The centerfielder was perfect on six chances in the field as well, including throwing out the tying run at the plate in the seventh inning of the Bengals 5-4 victory over Plattsburgh on Saturday.
