Jones and Garcia-Cassani honored with men's track & field weekly awards

CORTLAND, N.Y - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has announced its Men's Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week. This week's recipients were chosen from nominations from around the conference.

Cortland's Dawan Jones has been chosen as this week's Field Athlete of the Week for a second consecutive week. Jones recorded two AARTFC qualifying performances at the Cortland Classic. The Buffalo native finished first out of 34 competitors in the long jump at 6.88 meters (22' 7") and was third of 19 in the triple jump at 14.20 meters (46' 7.25"). Jones long jump distance at the Cortland Classic is his second AARTFC qualifying performance in that event this season. He currently ranks second nationally in the triple jump from a performance earlier this season (14.84 meters on April 13).

Geneseo's Isaac Garcia-Cassani has been selected as this week's Track Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row. Garcia-Cassani finished third in the Mike Brady Invitational Mile at Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational on Saturday. He crossed the finish line with a 4:01.35 clocking, finishing less than a second behind Olympian/Adidas runner Robby Andrews (4:00.50) and only .09 behind Princeton senior Garrett O'Toole, who came from behind to nip Garcia-Cassani at the line with the second-fastest mile (4:01.78) in Princeton program history. Garcia-Cassani's time converts to the top 1,500 (3:43.71) in Division III this spring by over four seconds.
