Women's Indoor Track and Field Yearly Awards Announced

CORTLAND, N.Y.- The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) is excited to announce the 2018 Women's Indoor Track and Field Track Athlete, Field Athlete, Rookie and Coach of the Year awards.

Track Athlete of the Year - Elisabeth Plympton, Plattsburgh

Plympton was a standout in the 200-meter dash as well as the 60-meter dash, being ranked in the top 10 in Division III for both events and ranked at the very top of the SUNYAC for the 60-meter dash. She ran her best 60-meter dash with a time of 7.68 seconds as well as her best 200-meter dash with a time of 25.23 in her last meet of the season at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, and she placed seventh in the 60-meter.

Field athlete of the Year - Victoire Kothor, Brockport

Kothor experienced a lot of success this year in her throwing events. She showed her dominance at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, taking the national championship title in the shot put and placing third in the weight throw. Kothor also threw a personal best 15.42 meters in the shot put at the AARTFC Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Rookie of the Year - Chanyce Powell, Brockport

Powell had an incredible rookie campaign, having great results in the long jump and triple jump. She earned first place in the long jump at the Golden Eagle Invitational, as she jumped her season best 5.64 meters. Her best triple jump mark came at the AARTFC Indoor Track & Field Championships, where she jumped 11.82 meters. Powell also earned fifth place in the long jump and 14th place in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.

Coach of the Year - Chris Popovici Geneseo 

In his fourth season as the head coach of Geneseo's women's track and field, Popovici's team finished the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships tied for 14th, the highest mark of any of the SUNYAC school. He also led his athletes to win some notable meets, including the 2018 SUNYAC Indoor Track and Field Championships, the AARTFC Indoor Track & Field Championships, and the Carnegie Mellon Invitational. Popovici coached his athletes to multiple top 5 team finishes in invitational meets this year.
